During the monthly meeting in August, the Council met and discussed roles of each committee and how they can continue to benefit the community. They also discussed the West Greenville Block Party.

Theresa Blount presented helpful information about asthma. She specifically highlighted how mold, moisture, or other triggers in your home can impact childhood asthma.

The September meeting was cancelled due to clean-up efforts following Hurricane Florence.

June 2018

For the month of June, the Council met and discussed different ways to outreach and advocate for the community. 

 

This month featured a discussion on sickle cell awareness. The group discussed how these issues could impact the community and ways that individuals can learn more about the effects of sickle cell anemia and the sickle cell trait.

July 2018

During the monthly meeting in July, the Council met and discussed the vital roles of each committee and how they can benefit the community.

LaTangee Dickens presented helpful information on sports injuries and ways that we can prevent them. Also, Mrs. Dickens mentioned how our children can raise awareness about sports injuries within their schools.

April 2018

The Council met in April and began discussing ways to get involved in their community.  A new committee was formed that will help to create pop-up events throughout the summer to help bring some fun during the summer months.

 

This month featured a discussion on Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV.  The group discussed how these issues impact the community and ways the council can help bring this issue to the attention of others in the community.

May 2018

The Council met in May and began discussing different ways to outreach and advocate for the community. 

 

This month featured a discussion on hurricane and emergency preparedness.  The group discussed how these issues impact the community and ways the council can help prepare families for hurricane season which starts on June 1st.

March 2018

February 2018

February's meeting began with a presentation by local graduate students who discussed health disparities and how they directly impact our community.

​

Then individuals from the Health Department demonstrated how to effectively use a blood pressure cuff and presented information on nutrition and healthy habits as they relate to maintaining heart health. 

 

Finally, the community learned about the resources within their community, including blood pressure cuff machines available at the local library that can help Greenville residents measure their risk for developing high blood pressure or heart disease.
